Global Assets -- Our Philosophy
After more than a century of great efforts, China has entered an era of national revival. The world has focused its attention on China's overall national strength. But the progress of social development has not always been smooth and challenges and opportunities exist side by side. The Chinese people are searching for a better way to sustain development and make the country more powerful and prosperous. The thoughts of the Father of the Nation Dr. Sun Yat-sen (Dr. Sun Yi Xian) are still well worth pursuing: "Based on our own particular social circumstances, we can look at examples from the rest of the world to reform our own society, thereby enabling our country to make progress and all our people to be wealthy." In recent years, the Chinese have been striving to strengthen cultural exchanges with the rest of the world. In the past 10 years especially, China has taken significant steps toward enhancing exchanges with the United Kingdom, a major player in the creative sector in the West.
On 26 January 2006, Dr. Sun Yi Xian's Youth Foundation invited four Chinese officials in charge of sports and cultural exchanges to attend the 102nd anniversary of the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA). This visit enabled the Chinese officials to gain a better understanding of the long history of football training in English schools. In August 2006, with funds raised by Dr. Sun Yi Xian's Youth Foundation to develop the “Sino-UK Schools Football” project, a U18 China Schools football team was sponsored to visit United Kingdom for the first time as a cultural exchange event between the two countries.
On the basis laid down by earlier generations of British and Chinese and to "commemorate Sino-U.K. friendship during WWII", China Cultural Global Foundation was requested in April 2009 by the committee of Hong Kong Escape Re-enactment Organization (UK) to organise a cultural event for about 60 descendants of British soldiers to “retrace our ancestors' escape route" to Nan'ao (Shenzhen), Huizhou and other places in China for four days at Christmas 2009, with the hope that this successful re-enactment would bring a new breakthrough in non-governmental exchanges between the peoples of the two countries.
The successful 2008 Beijing Olympic Games concentrated the whole world's attention on China, which has become a great sporting and economic power. The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will be an even bigger world focus. A deeper reform with a larger and more open market for the cultural and creative sectors in China has been anticipated. To be a responsible world power, China needs to raise her overall national strength not only industrially but also culturally, to develop core technologies of her own, and in particular to boost the overall development of her cultural and sporting sector and strengthen exchanges of traditional cultures and values so as to enhance understanding of Western culture and make reasonable use of the knowledge gained for the progress of social development.
With this aim in mind, "Global Assets" has come into being. "Ge Bao", the Chinese name of “Global Assets”, means " Treasury of Songs". Songs, sung by people, are an expression of their soul and their ideas and form a cultural link that transcends language and nation. We hope to mix a variety of excellent ideas from a variety of excellent cultures into a beautiful melody that will be sung by people all over the world and will represent a treasure for all humankind. In addition, the pronunciation of “Ge Bao” in Chinese is similar to “global” in English, thus giving voice to the determination to push forward East-West cultural exchanges on the basis of globalisation.
The birth of "Global Assets" is no accident. We are following our great ancestor Dr. Sun Yat-sen's (Dr. Sun Yi Xian's) unfulfilled wishes to keep pace with world development and to contribute our efforts to East-West cultural globalisation. Nowadays, according to the official press in China, the Chinese government is determined to carry out a thorough reform of the cultural and sports sectors and is walking firmly along the path of globalisation. This century-long project to bring about a thriving and prosperous national cultural and sporting sector calls for great patience and effort in conducting global operation and development. We sincerely hope all far-sighted people at home and abroad will put forward constructive suggestions and support "Global Assets", a meaningful long-term project in the cultural and sporting arena.
